When did you know you were going to be a wood working craftsman?  As a young child I loved building wooden boats in my grandfather’s shop.

What is the design process for a project?  It’s a collaboration between the client and myself. I meet with the client to get their ideas, sketches, magazine photos, etc.  I show them sample door styles and finishes.  Sometimes they come to my shop to look at works in progress.  They tell me what they like and I sit down and start drawing a design.  I sometimes consult with architects and interior designers.  We typically meet a few more times to review and tweak the design until it’s exactly what the client wants.

How much of a deposit is required at the start of the project?  We typically get a 50% deposit to start the project.

When is the remaining balance due?  The client is invited to my shop to look at the project before the final finishing process. We get a 25% progress payment upon walk-through in the shop.  The balance is due upon installation.

What’s your favorite wine?  Ha ha!  Pinot Noir is my favorite, but I love all wine!  I’m an equal opportunity wine drinker!

How long does the average job take?  It depends on the project.  A medium-sized kitchen, from start to finish, takes about eight to ten weeks.

I heard you’re a boat captain.  Is this true?  Yes, it’s true!  I hold a U.S. Coast Guard 50 ton master’s license with commercial towing and sailing endorsements.

If you weren’t a cabinet maker what would you be doing?  Yacht Captain!

Do you only do the wood working side of the job or do you tile, etc?  I personally stick to what I know best…making beautiful, custom cabinets and millwork!  I have a talented group of professionals that do the rest of the work.
